What Happened? |
Approximately eight hundred National Guard troops and an unspecified number of FBI agents began deploying to the streets of Washington D.C. on orders from President Trump. On Monday, President Trump announced he would be taking over D.C. policing to reduce crime, and that effort would include the deployment of additional law enforcement personnel in addition to National Guard Troops. |
Agents from Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms in addition to those from Immigration, Customs, and Enforcement have also been seen in Washington D.C. following the President’s announcement. To date the Trump Administration has not specified how long they expect the additional forces to remain in D.C. |
Why it Matters |
This is the second major use of National Guard forces in a U.S. city during President Trump’s second term of office, the first being Los Angeles. The stated reason for the deployment of additional law enforcement and National Guard forces to D.C. was to reduce violent crime and homelessness. |

Congress buried THIS in a new law? |
The GENIUS Act didn’t make headlines, but maybe it should have. |
Passed quietly in Q1, the bill introduced new incentives for companies that share revenue with users. |
|
Not ads. Not influencers. Everyday people. |
And it just so happens that one company already does this. |
In fact, they built their entire business on that idea years ago: |
Mode Mobile. |
That puts Mode way ahead of the competition the GENIUS Act is trying to encourage. |
Mode already has: |
● 50M+ users |
● $325M+ paid to users |
● $75M in real revenue |
● Nasdaq ticker secured for potential IPO |
● Pre-IPO shares available at just $0.30/share |
This is a company that was awarded North America’s fastest growing software company after 32,481% growth! |
And now they’re not just ahead of the curve, they are the curve. |
But their pre-IPO offering is over 95% full, with limited shares remaining. |

Under the Home Rule Act, the president may direct the mayor of Washington D.C. to provide him police services for federal purposes, and that the mayor shall provide them to him. On Monday, Trump sent a letter to the mayor saying he was directing her to ‘submit to the President, through the Attorney General, the services of the Metropolitan Police force for federal purposes.’ |
The federal takeover of local police is limited to 48 hours under the Home Rule Act, but National Guard forces can remain for longer because the D.C. National Guard is the only guard force that reports directly to the President. All other National Guards report to state governors. |
Thus far no specific directives or initiatives have been undertaken by the additional troops and law enforcement agents in D.C., with the Washington Post reporting those forces were looking to the D.C. police for ideas about what they should do while there. Neither the city of Washington D.C. nor its residents had requested or asked for federal assistance, and the FBI’s own data shows that violent crime in the D.C. area has actually been decreasing. |
This is the third time federal troops have been used by President Trump in D.C., the last two times were January 6, 2021, and before that in the summer of 2020 following the protests of the George Floyd murder. |
Before that, the last time federal troops were used by a President in D.C. was 1932, when President Hoover ordered troops under the command of General Douglas MacArthur to remove the Bonus Army from D.C. The Bonus Army consisted of World War I veterans demanding additional benefits. |
How it Affects You |
The use of federal troops in a U.S. city without any major underlying cause or incident is unprecedented in American history. While supporters applaud the move, critics call it a lurch towards authoritarianism, which means it could become a major issue in the 2026 mid-term elections. |
